DAY 7 AT THE OLYMPICS: RECORD BREAKING MEDAL EVENTS HELD AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are back again! This is Day 7 at the Paris Olympics and we had some great shocks today. If you missed the action today, here is all you need to know on the day Paris Olympics turned 7 days old.

ACTION PACKED WEEKEND UP AHEAD

Today, on Friday, not only were there the most medal events so far at the Olympic Games but also the beginning of an action-packed weekend which will see a record-breaking number of medal events being hosted. This began today when 34, yes 34, medal events were hosted and funnily enough, Pakistan Was not be part of any of those events, more on that later. I think it is fair enough to say that all of the 34 medal events today were a delight to watch and the better teams won.

PAKISTAN’S PERFORMANCE

Two of Pakistan’s athletes were supposed to be in action today, Faiqa Riaz in the Women’s 100m Heat 2 and Kishmala Talat in the Women’s 25m precision pistol shooting which had to be done in 2 parts. At first, Faiqa Riaz had a fairly decent 100m where she managed to get 6th out of 9 athletes posting her personal best time of a 12.47 which was around 0.25 seconds faster than the expected simulations. To follow it up, Kishmala Talat finished the 1st part of 25m shooting in 18th place and then backed up the second part to end with a solid 22nd place finish.

AQUATIC MEDALS

There were plenty of aquatic events too and here are the highlights. USA got gold in the Women’s 200m breaststroke final and backed it up well with a silver in the Women’s 4x200 relay while Australia earned gold. About diving, China struck gold in the Men’s synchronized 3m springboard events while Mexico racked up silver and bronze was what Great Britain got. Netherlands beat Romania and Australia to gold the Rowing women’s pair finals while in the men’s version, Croatia held off Great Britain and Switzerland to claim gold. In sailing, it was Netherlands that got the better of Sweden and France in the Women’s skiff final respectively. While in the men’s, it was Spain that beat New Zealand and the USA to the chequered flag.

OTHER NOTICABLE EVENTS

In the Women’s 50m shooting 3 positions, Switzerland held off the US and China to the gold medal; their first at this years’ Olympics. Coming to Athletics, the Men’s 10000m final was won by Uganda, followed by Ethiopia and the USA. Mixed team 4x400 relay was won by USA setting an Olympic record. In the Men’s BMX racing, France got the podium only getting all 1st, 2nd and also 3rd for the first time ever. Australia beat Netherlands and Switzerland to Olympic gold in the women’s version. Korea destroyed Germany 6-0 in the mixed team Archery final and Great Britain led home USA and France in the team jumping equestrian final.

So after an action packed Friday at the Olympic games, it is China that leads the medal table with 13 gold ahead of France and Australia with 11. That’s it for today, Looking forward to Day 8 at the games then!
