Here we are again with Day 8 at the Olympic Games Paris 2024! There were several shocks today including athletics, swimming and archery. So, without wasting any time, let’s just dive straight into it.
ARCHERY SHOCKS
At this point, we might as well not call this a shock, but out
of 4 semi-finalists in the Women’s individual archery, three were Korean. Korea
beat Korea in the semi final and went to the gold medal match while Korea also
beat France to advance to the final, setting up a mouthwatering final clash
between Korea and…………Korea! Eventually Korea did beat Korea in the final as
expected and France beat who other than: Korea in the Bronze medal match
meaning France came third, Korea 2nd and Korea 1st.
TRACK AND FIELD EVENTS
There were plenty of track and field gold medal evets held
on Saturday and here are the highlights. In the Men’s shotput, USA struck gold
holding off Jamaica to silver as well. Bahamas earned a shock second gold medal
beating Richardson from the US in the Women’s 100m. Netherlands held off the US
too, beating them to gold in the Mixed team 4x400m relay. Dominica outmaneuvered
Jamaica and the USA to gold in the Women’s triple Jump. A reminder, there were
no Pakistan athletes in action but soon would be as tomorrow, Ghulam Mustafa
Bashir takes on competition in the Men’s 25m pistol.
OTHER MEDAL EVENTS
Apart from the track and field, there were records shattered
all over Paris last night. In the mixed 4x100 medley relay in swimming, USA
outswam China and Australia to gold, setting a world record in the way while in
the individual medley, it was Canada who earned gold by setting an Olympic record.
Evenepoel from Belgium held off his two French competitors to get gold in the Men’s
Road cycling final. Italy earned gold ahead of Israel and Great Britain in the
Women’s windsurfing medal. China beat China to Women’s singles table tennis
gold and Philippines outsmarted Israel and Great Britain to gold in the Men’s floor
exercise final in gymnastics. Ukraine beat Korea to gold in the Women’s fencing

That’s all then from a whirlwind day at the Olympic games,
see you tomorrow with Day 8 and best wishes as always to Ghulam Mustafa Bashir!
