DAY 9 AT THE OLYMPICS: MEDAL TABLE HEATS UP AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Here we are, once again, with Paris Olympic Games 2024 news as the games draw to its final stages. Heading into the Day, China had a sizeable 7 gold medal lead at the top and while the top two today are still the exact same, the gap has been cut down to just 3 medals now thanks to some heroics by America. Here is all you need to know about Day 9.

AMERICAN ATHLETES STEAL THE SHOW

Perhaps the most awaited event in the Paris Olympics 2024, the Men’s 100m, was scheduled today. No world records were set here, but the Jamaican Thompson and Noah Lyles from the US were given exactly the same time and at first, Jamica thought it had gold, only for the dreams to later be crushed in the most bizarre way possible. After all, Noah Lyles was crowned the fastest man on the planet. In swimming, The US beat Australia and China in the Women’s 100x4 medley final. In the 1500m swimming for men, it was once again the US that struck gold. They also won the women’s road race in cycling ahead of Netherlands and Belgium. Finally, in individual golf, USA beat team GBR and Japan to gold ending a supreme day for the nation.

TENNIS CONCLUDES AT THE GAMES

Day 9 at the Olympic games, was also the last we saw of tennis and what we saw was simply worth it. At first, Italy and Spain prevailed in the Women’s Double gold and bronze medal matches respectively. Talking of Spain, it was their boy 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz who was up against the so called greatest of all time, Novak Djokovic and didn’t he just prove that. It was just a two-set game that ended up going to tie breaks both times, so the result could have been the exact opposite. Djokovic won both the tie breakers, 7-6 each to become Olympic champion. That sends us into other noticeable events.

OTHER NOTICABLE EVENTS

In table tennis men singles, China beat Sweden to gold in a tight encounter. In archery, guess who won Men’s Individual Gold medal? Yes, it was Korea. AGAIN! Chinese Taipei or Taiwan beat China in the final to claim men’s doubles Badminton gold while Malaysia settled for Bronze. A Chinese one-two led home Greece on the Men’s Rings final in artistic gymnastics. Oh, and who got Men’s individual Archery bronze. Oh dear it was Korea again. These guys are great at target killing and isn’t that just proven! The last medal of the day went to Japan in fencing.

The medal race is heating up big time and as the Olympics’ reach it’s peak time. The gap is just 3 medals at the top and we can feel it well. That’s it from Day 9, tomorrow then, with Day 10.
